Is the Storm Coming?

"Is the Storm Coming?"

"Purple Sky"

Acrylic on Paper, 21" x 29"

The colors of the sky often hint at the weather to come. In tropical beach settings, beyond the usual blues and grays, I’ve witnessed moments when the sky takes on mesmerizing shades of purple.

Does it signal an approaching storm? Perhaps. But the true experts, the fishermen, know best. If their boats are still out at sea (seen on the background), chances are the sky will soon clear.

In this scene, the blend of sunset hues with soft purples left me in awe. I was captivated by the sky’s reflection on the ocean, the warm tones of the sand, and the gentle shadow cast by the boat, elements that together create a tranquil yet powerful moment.

Another similar scene, on the same beach, is my "Beach Dogs" painting, 12" x 16", acrylic on canvas panel.

"Beach Dogs"

This painting captures a similar scene on the same beach, but with a noticeable shift in mood. The sky is heavier, with thick clouds gathering, and the wind has stirred the ocean’s surface into restless motion. Unlike before, there are no fishermen’s boats in sight—a sure sign that a storm is approaching.

Yet, the beach dogs remain unfazed. Ever curious, they wander toward a boat resting on the sand, undeterred by the changing weather. Their presence adds a sense of life and resilience to the scene, a quiet moment of exploration before the storm arrives.
